Our Basecamp.

Alex chooses to base his home, and his business in Montana for a reason. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, and wildlife, it provides the perfect backdrop for his photographic pursuits. Each season brings a fresh new perspective, and constant inspiration. It only makes sense that the workshop would take place right here in the Big Sky State.

For 2022 we have partnered with The Clydesdale Outpost, a boutique guest ranch just outside of Whitefish, Montana. The Outpost features six beautifully constructed timber frame cabins, all thoughtfully placed on the ridge line of the property to maximize the views. Each cabin is luxuriously appointed and individually styled, providing the perfect place to relax and recharge before heading out for another epic day of learning.

Surrounded by stunning views of the Whitefish Mountain Range, and bordered by 4500 feet of Stillwater River frontage, the location is awe-inspiring and the perfect jumping off point for the groups adventures into Glacier National Park and beyond. Explore the properties 100 acres while enjoying breathtaking sunrises, sunsets, fresh mountain air, or simply take it all in from the serenity of your cabins cedar clad hot tub.

All Inclusive Experience

Once arriving at The Outpost, the entire itinerary has been custom tailored to give you the best possible experience. All lodging, meals, and of course world class education from Alex is included. With all of the details taken care of you get to sit back and enjoy, taking time in such a beautiful location to digest all of the learnings from the retreat.

Private Chef Dining

We have partnered with Chef Cody Ringo to bring you a one of a kind dining experience featuring locally sourced ingredients with an international flair. Chef Cody has thoughtfully prepared the menu to encourage a family style experience around a shared farm table where the group can further get to know each other. For meals that will take place over hikes, Chef Cody has designed a curated picnic menu for mouthwatering meals enhanced by the backcountry setting.

The Workshop

This workshop is focused on the business of photography, but also includes many opportunities to get out in the field and shoot, as well as have your work critiqued by Alex. Free time most evenings and early mornings will allow you to get out and explore everything Montana has to offer!

We highly recommend you read testimonials of past workshop students below. While the instruction and mentorship from Alex will help you immensely on your photographic journey, being surrounded by such an incredible group of like minded individuals so eager to learn and advance is a huge plus. The environment that kind of energy creates is unmatched.

Hiking in Glacier National Park

Known as the Crown of the Continent, Glacier National Park is a showcase of melting glaciers, alpine meadows, carved valleys, and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, Glacier is the perfect backdrop for this photography retreat. Each hike has been carefully selected by Alex to include a wide range of photographic opportunities, ultimately leading up to that banger shot you’ve been dreaming of capturing.

Shoot Two Real World Assignments With…

After the assignment you will have the opportunity to submit photos which their art directors will then give feedback on. Getting here

There are various ways to join us in Montana. The nearest airport to fly into is Kalispell (FCA) which is a 20 minute drive to Whitefish, and a 30 minute drive to The Outpost.

Once arriving at the airport you can arrange a pick-up with one of our team members. Additional options include Uber and local taxi companies, that will be able to take you to Whitefish to explore the town, or directly to The Outpost.

If the flight times do not line up for your schedule, driving to Montana is a great option.
