An exclusive in-person photographic retreat hosted by Alex Strohl.
Elevate your photographic vision and skills to new heights.
Five Days In France
Join Alex in his native country of France hiking hut-to-hut in the Pyrenees mountains. Exploring and photographing along the way, you will travel via Land Rover Defender between the two main locations – Val D’Ayous and Neouvielle.
In-Person Training
As a travel retreat the focus of this trip will be the experience itself. Alex will teach different aspects of photography throughout the trip in organic settings – on the trail, around the campfire, and driving between locations.
Like Minded Connections
With the small group size you will not only have plenty of one-on-one time with Alex, but be hiking alongside other like-minded photographers and adventures. The connections and friendships created in the Pyrenees will last a lifetime.

What is it?
The Pyrénees retreat is a 5 day long adventure photography course through the deepest alpine valleys of the Pyrénees mountain range (France). You will spend your days hiking, swimming, photographing and mingling with like-minded photographers.
Tell me more…
We will meet up in the French surf town of Biarritz which is located about 1.5 hours drive from the Pyrénees, pack our hiking & camera packs with Alex’s guidance and go out for a beach sunset photo session out of town followed by a dinner in one of our favorite spots in town.
The next morning we’ll meet at a coffee shop for cortados where Alex will give a presentation on adventure photography and explain your assignment. After that, we’ll split in two cars (one of them is Alex’s Defender!) and head towards the Val D’Ossau, one of Alex’s favorite alpine valleys in the Pyréenes for the beginning of our adventure.
What will I learn?
Both photography and hiking skills will be covered:
See how Alex shoots his iconic work first-hand
Conceptualize work that is unique to you
Frame alpine scenes
Tell stories visually
Work with light (sunset, sunrise, night photography)
You will be given a commercial assignment for the length of the retreat and be reviewed by Alex on it
How to pack for multi-day hikes
There will be an optional ascent of the Pic du Midi with 2 accomplished mountain guides
When will it take place?
The Pyrenees Retreat will take place over the course of five full days, from October 3rd to October 9th, with working hours focused around the midday. You will have plenty of time to head out and capture the Pyrenees in their summer glory with free time occurring in the early mornings and the soft light of the evening. See the detailed itinerary below for more info.
